Heading South for the Winter? Look No Further than the Nicklaus Design Portfolio of the World’s Finest Golf and Vacation Destinations

Baha Mar — Royal Blue Golf Club, a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course that opened last year, is uniquely designed as two courses in one. The front nine holes feature dramatic views of undulating fairways, rolling white sand dunes, brackish ponds and glimpses of a turquoise Atlantic Ocean. The back nine showcases a very different look; players navigate stunning limestone “moonscapes” through dense jungle and steep downhill terrain to get to the peninsula green on the 16th hole, which precariously borders Lake Cunningham. The course features tees for all levels of play and can challenge even the best players from the tips playing 7,189 yards. The unmistakable beauty and unique challenge make the course enjoyable for all golfers.

The white sand beach destination of Baha Mar also includes three prestigious global hotel operators – Grand Hyatt, SLS, and Rosewood – with over 2,300 rooms, 20 restaurants and lounges, the largest casino in the Caribbean, a state-of-the-art convention center, the Caribbean’s first and only flagship ESPA spa, and over 30 luxury retail outlets. Baha Mar is a beautiful location with a strong mix of activities and guest offerings in one of the most stunning locales in the world.

PGA National — South Florida’s world-class golf destination, PGA National Resort & Spa, has reopened its celebrated Champion Course following a major renovation by Nicklaus Design’s Senior Design Associate, Chris Cochran, and is once again welcoming snowbirds for play.

The famed Champion Course has long been revered as one of the most challenging in the game and has been home to the PGA TOUR’s Honda Classic since 2007. One of the premier tests of golf is now even stronger. Resort guests can try to tackle Jack’s course when taking advantage of several exceptional stay-and-play offers this season.

Reunion Resort — Reunion Resort continues to strengthen its facility with a multi-pronged improvement plan at the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course that originally opened in 2007. The enhancements include a re-routing of the two finishing holes which was completed by Jack Nicklaus and Nicklaus Design Associate Chad Goetz in 2015. The primary focus of this work includes enhanced and efficient bunker designs, creating new green sites and determining the best routing for the final holes.

Additionally, Jack was in Orlando in March to officially open the Bear’s Den Club, a private enclave of luxury homes by Encore that line the finishing stretch at the signature course.

Reunion Resort features 360 resort-style accommodations ranging from luxury suites and condos, to multi-room villas and private 3-to-13-bedroom vacation homes. The amenity-rich resort also features eight casual and fine dining options including an award-winning rooftop steakhouse, elegant indoor and outdoor meeting spaces, six hydro-grid clay tennis courts, a full-service boutique spa, 10 community pools and a 5-acre waterpark including slides, a water playground and a 1,000-ft. lazy river. With various real estate and membership opportunities available, guests can stay for a weekend or become members for life.

Naples Beach Hotel and Golf Club — This Jack Nicklaus re-design was spearheaded by Jack and Nicklaus Design Associate David Savic in collaboration with John Sanford of Sanford Golf Design. Completed in 2017, the course re-opened to rave reviews from leading golf publications and the playing public. The renovation work, which is a specialty in the firm’s portfolio of capabilities, included five sets of tees, ranging from 4,800 yards to over 6,900 yards. In addition, there is a 300-yard practice and teaching range that gives you the perfect canvas to knock the rust off your game.
Even better, you can play like a champion and pay like a member with a wonderful holiday offer from the Club. For six days only, you can play NBHGC’s 18-hole championship course and pay no greens fees when you stay at the property’s hotel. Just like its members, you can tee up and pay only cart fees for each round. Greet the new year with warm weather, cool savings and great golf.
Next month, Nicklaus News will feature our 2019 winter golf-getaway destinations and the collection of spectacular Nicklaus courses in Mexico.
